| | | | Swedish - This is the style people most commonly associate with Massage. It uses long, gliding, soft to deep strokes, kneading, and percussion. Together, these help to loosen tight muscles and the adhesions that result from chronic stress and injury. | | Deep Tissue - Sometimes the source of tightness is not found in the muscle, but instead the fascia which surrounds it. Think of it as though your legs were loose, but you're wearing tight jeans, so you can't touch your toes. Deep tissue works to loosen and lengthen fascia, thus freeing up motion in the muscles it relates to. | | Trigger Point - These are like the links on a web page, pressing them leads you to other related areas. When a trigger point is pressed, other muscles in the surrounding area will also feel relief. This is especially effective for Carpal Tunnel, TMJ, as well as chronic low back, neck and shoulder stress. | | Shiatsu - Where western styles of massage are muscle and circulation focused, Shiatsu addresses Chi, the current we have flowing through us. They feel that when an area is blocked, places down the line can have problems, and by pressing Tsubos, points along the pathways of Chi, proper flow is restored. It's like unkinking a hose. You'll feel a sense of calm, balance restored. | | Cross Fiber/Longitudinal Release - Sometimes, when you have a knot that just won't go away, it's due to the muscle fibers being jumbled like Pick Up Sticks, not able to align, and therefore relax to their full length, reducing the range of motion. CF/LR helps to address this by stretching and lengthening those fibers from the beginning to end of a particular muscle, and going across the grain to broaden their area as well. CF/LR is especially effective for computer weary arms, and desk cramped legs. | | Hot Stone - Stones are laid on strategic points of the body, from the spinal muscles to under the neck to even between your toes! As they melt your tension, other stones are used to deeply access the muscles, taking your massage deeper then you thought possible, delightfully so. You'll find yourself feeling quite grounded by the stones, and your body noticeably different when done. |
