wat to do?heart attack?
i read somewhere..when someone has a heart attack.the best thing to do it lay them down with their head slightly elevated. and also,to reduce pressure...prick each finger tip with a needle and also earlobes ,then massage.(to ensure that the face wont get twisted or smth..)is this all true?
When someone has a heart attack, the blood supply to their heart has been obstructed, which causes some of the heart tissue to die. To minimise this tissue damage, the person needs to get to a hospital immediately so they can be given drugs that help return the blood flow to the heart.
It is important to reduce the work the heart has to do, because the harder the heart works, the more blood it needs, and if it's supply is cut off, then it's in big trouble! This is why lying the patient down is a good idea.
There is a position called the "recovery" or "coma" position, which has the head and legs slightly elevated. This may be what you are referring to.
As for the finger pricking... I can see absolutely no reason to do this. There is no "pressure" build up during a heart attack whatsoever. Pricking someone's body could in fact cause even more damage, as when one is in pain, their body sends out a rush of adrenaline that makes the heart beat faster. As i said before, we want the opposite!!!
Lastly, there is no clinical reason to massage someone's face when someone has a heart attack. Their face will not get "twisted" or contorted for any reason (you may be thinking of a stroke - in which case massaging is also not effective at all)
The best thing to do for someone who is experiencing a heart attack is to sit/lay them down, keep them CALM and wait for the ambulence to come. Do not give them anything to eat/drink (even water) as they may need emergency surgery, which they can't have if they have eaten/drunk anything.
Having a diet low in saturated fats and high in fibre/nutrients/omega 3 fatty acids (HDLs) as well as maintaining low blood pressure through regular exercise is the best way of preventing a heart attack.
Asprin and other anti/platelet/Anti-coagulent drugs are also available for patients at risk of heart attack. Prevention is better then treatment.
