Coming back from an injury.....?

Well Iam a very dedicated martial artist.......atleast I was before I dislocated my shoulder 3 months ago. I did a few forms and shadow boxing yesterday for the first time in three months. It was very slow moving and gentle, but still, it feels great to move again.
But I must admit, I am afraid to turn up my training. I already have a constantly sore back, and my hip bothers me every now and again. I guess all those years of full-contact and weight vest conditioning didnt help. Im only 20 years old, but I have put some "mileage" on my body. Someone suggested I get on a routine of massages and spa treatments for maintenance.

Should I spend the next few months re-building and healing years of "wear and tear" or should I just quit like everyone wants me too. Has any other athletes been down this road?

My uncle used to be an excellent sprinter in track and field. It was either in the last years of high school or early years of college. But during one of his races he pulled a muscle and "busted it." Unfortunately for him, his leg wasn't able to heal properly. But now, as a mid-aged father of his own athletic daughter, he still plays sports with her as much as he can. In fact, he often goes bicycling. He once told me even though he knew he couldn't do track and field again, he never felt like giving up.

I think you pretty much answered your own question when you said, "I am a very dedicated martial artist." Just follow your aspiration for martial arts. Besides, since your injury can be "fixed" then why not continue on? =]
