I paint custom oil paintings.I would like to sell. (and or show)7'x4/1/2'?
It is of an English county side. It is in beautiful greens. It also has a small farm house with the dry stone all through the hillsI had a galery who was intrested in it, but decided to back down. I had no contract. I REALLY, REALLY want to do this for a living. I have been painting for about 23 years now. It's my passion. I get so lost in it. Please help if you have any ideas, where I could go. UPS has quoted $500.00 just to ship it. I did not think it would be that much. I want to have my own art studio some day, for now I paint in my kitchen.
First what are you asking? Are you asking how you can show the painting at galleries or in shows outside your area? As for where you can go, frst, dude, get a portfolio together. You should have at least ten images (electronic and traditional slides) to "shop around" not a single work -- no matter how big or good you think it is... Your images should be professional/high quality. Nothing else in the shot with the work and definitely no fish-eyed images... As far as the cost of shipping the painting I wouldn't worry about that until you get an invitation to a show. Depending on the show/venue, they may cover shipping but that's not typical. Most galleries/venues only pay for returning your work, not getting it there to them unless you have a special arrangement or you have a "name". Decide whether it's easier/cheaper to deliver the work yourself or to ship it. Also put a resume/vitae together. If you don't have enough shows to list, which it sounds like you don't so that leaves a bio. Right a bio and an artist statement. If you don't know how, go to some galleries/art spaces and read other artists' or go on line and google samples or google specific artists; especially those you know or like. The solution to shipping and moving larger paintings is to etiher create dyptichs or tryptichs or remove the canvas from the stretcher... If art truly is your "passion" then live it don't just talk about it and, certainly don't put anything else before it. You're eirther are an artist or someone who does art. Most importantly, never turn down an exhibit unless you're over booked with shows/projects, the gallery/venue is shakey or you can't complete the [quality] work in time for the opening. Or your work really isn't on the level you know it should be. Then you'll never know until you let other see/critque it. Get out of your kitchen! Get a real studio space! Even if it's your garage or a spare bedroom... You should always have a space that's dedicated to your work not a corner or double-duty space.
