Why does my painted turtle stretch his back feet all the way out when he's resting?
It's cute but I wondered if there might be a real reason for it.
Youi're right; there is a real reason for that position. The more of its body the turtle has exposed to the sun (or other heat source), the faster the turtle will warm up and the less time it has to spend out of the water exposed to predators.
